Sales Job Search Strategies

1) Post your Resume on the Major Job Boards.  Its critical to refresh or re-post your resume, we recommend every two-weeks.  As your resume ages, recruiters and hiring managers will stop paying to see it.  You may also want to consider creating multiple profiles with resumes tailored to different positions or industries that you are seeking.  This will increase the odds that you come up in a paid resume search.

2) Find and Partner with a Sales Recruiter.  These folks not only have access to the jobs you are seeking, but they get paid (by the employer) when you get hired.  So they are motivated to see you succeed.  LocalDog recommends interviewing several recruiters and partnering with a select few that fit you the best.

3) Find and contact key decision makers at your target companies.  Presidents, CEO's, EVP's of HR, and especially VP's and Directors of Sales want to find and hire the best people.  If your resume looks good and ends up on their desk, or even just at the desk of their admin - its more likely to be forwarded to a hiring manager than it is to be put in the round file (trashcan).

4) Leverage your personal network.  Make a list of individuals you know who can either directly assist your job search or know of someone who can.  Make sure they:
-know you are "on the market"
-have a copy of your resume
-know what type of position or company you are looking for

5) Use experts to address areas of weakness.
If your resume is not working and you are not getting access to the quantity of opportunities you should be, spend a few bucks and hire a professional.  A small investment that results in securing a better job faster is smart money.
